“Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them…There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well” (Genesis 26:18, 25).
This is some exciting stuff. One of the more noteworthy happenings in Genesis is Isaac reopening the stopped up wells his father dug. The Philistines recognized how big Isaac had become and they tried slowing down his progress and growth by stopping up the wells. They thought this would keep Isaac down after his father Abraham passed away. Yet, Isaac’s generation prospered under God’s hand, for the Lord our God always makes a way. He is our principal shepherd. He leads us beside still waters. He restores our souls. He leads us to the wellsprings of wealth, health, and happiness. His wells are a source of life and growth for all living things. They are central to green pastures for herds, flocks and cattle. As the sheep of God’s green earth, let us reopen the Pentecostal wells of revival that our spiritual fathers and
mothers dug for us. Might we invite the Lord into worship. And let us not stop there. God has called us to open new wells and name them also as the Holy Spirit gives inspiration (26:25).
